Garmin R10 vs Rapsodo MLM2PRO vs Square Golf for Small Rooms
Short answer: If your room is short on depth, we'd look at the Square Golf HOME Edition ($699) first. It sits beside the ball, so there's no unit behind you like the Garmin R10 (6-8 ft behind the ball) and Rapsodo MLM2PRO (7.5 ft behind). The R10 needs about 15 ft from unit to net, since Garmin asks for 6-8 ft behind the ball plus 8 ft to the net, and at $499.99 it's the cheapest way in. The Rapsodo MLM2PRO ($549.99) is the one that measures spin with its marked balls. Square Golf also has no yearly fee.

Garmin Approach R10
Garmin's owner's manual puts the R10 on the ground 6-8 ft behind the tee, with the tee at least 8 ft from the net. That's 14-16 ft from the unit to the net before you leave any room behind the screen. The same page tells you to make sure there's enough ceiling height for your swing, but it doesn't give a number.
How you'd use it: Play a weeknight round on one of the 43,000+ courses in the Home Tee Hero app (with a Garmin Golf subscription), then hit range balls in the Garmin Golf app's Driving Range mode with your numbers after every shot.
Who this fits: Golfers with a long room or a garage who want the lowest price and the option to pay month to month.
Rapsodo MLM2PRO
Rapsodo's FAQ says to put the unit 7.5 ft (2-3 paces) behind the ball, lined up with your target, for both righties and lefties. Its metrics list includes Spin Rate and Spin Axis. The FAQ lists Core at $199.99/yr and Studios at $399.99/yr. Our $1,500-5,000 guide explains what you can and can't do without Core.
How you'd use it: Play courses from your phone or tablet, then switch to the range to work on spin with the RPT balls it ships with.
Who this fits: Golfers with a long room who want spin numbers and don't mind a yearly plan.
Square Golf HOME Edition
The HOME Edition sits on the floor beside the ball, level with it. Square Golf UK's product page puts the center of the hitting area 42 cm (about 16.5 in) in front of the unit and 23 cm (about 9 in) to the right. Square's FAQ says the HOME Edition is indoor-only, needs marked balls for spin, and has no monthly or yearly fee. Square doesn't publish a ball-to-screen distance, room size or ceiling height for it.
How you'd use it: Tee it up beside the unit, at the distance your screen maker asks for, and play courses with the 1,000 included credits, no subscription.
Who this fits: Golfers in a shallow room who don't want a yearly fee. Households with a righty and a lefty should check Square's note about repositioning first.
Which one fits your room?
- Short room: Square Golf HOME, since nothing sits behind you. Square doesn't publish a ball-to-screen minimum, so leave the safety distance your screen maker asks for. Carl's Place, for example, says to stand 10-12 ft from its screens.
- Long room or garage: The R10 or MLM2PRO. Our garage guide covers door tracks and a retractable screen setup built around the R10.
- Lefty and righty in the same house: Rapsodo says the MLM2PRO stays in the same spot, 7.5 ft behind the ball, and you just set Handedness in the app. Square's FAQ says its unit may need to be repositioned when you switch players. Garmin's manual shows one setup spot behind the ball with no handedness step, and it doesn't say more than that.
- Low ceiling: None of the three makers publishes a ceiling number, so your swing decides. Our ceiling height guide shows how to measure.
