Launch Monitor Space Requirements: How Much Room Each Home Unit Needs
Short answer: units that sit behind the ball (Garmin R10, Rapsodo MLM2PRO, FlightScope Mevo+) need the most depth. Their makers call for the unit 6-9 ft behind the ball plus at least 8 ft from ball to net, so plan on about 15 ft of depth before the net itself. Units that sit beside the ball (SkyTrak ST MAX, Uneekor EYE MINI LITE, Bushnell Launch Pro, Foresight GCQuad) sit right next to the hitting area, so the depth you need is set by your swing and ball-to-screen distance, not the unit. The overhead Trackman iO needs no floor space but does need a ceiling inside its mounting window, which starts at 8 ft 10 in.
Every number below is based on manufacturer specs, taken from the maker's own product page, manual or help center and linked. Where a maker doesn't publish a number, we say so rather than fill it in. We haven't tested these units in our own rooms.
For how tall your ceiling needs to be for your swing, see our ceiling height guide.

"Not published" means we couldn't find the number on the maker's own pages.

Unit by unit
Garmin Approach R10
Garmin's owner's manual says to place the R10 on the ground 6 to 8 ft behind the tee, with the tee at least 8 ft from the net indoors. The manual only says to "ensure there is adequate ceiling height." In its getting-started video, Garmin lists a minimum indoor space of 15 ft long x 8 ft wide x 8 ft high.
Rapsodo MLM2PRO
Rapsodo's FAQ says you need "at least 8 feet from the ball to the net, plus 7.5 feet behind the ball for the device: a little more than 15 feet in total." It adds that taller players may need to place the device farther back to capture their whole swing video. The MLM2PRO user manual gives a range of 6.5-8.5 ft directly behind the ball and at least 8 ft of ball flight in net mode. We didn't find a width or ceiling number from Rapsodo.
SkyTrak ST MAX
The ST MAX user guide lists a minimum unobstructed area of 10 ft long x 10 ft wide and says safe ceiling height "varies and depends on your physical height and the length of your club." The unit sits beside the ball, parallel to your target line, and projects a red laser dot where the ball goes. The guide doesn't give a numeric unit-to-ball distance. SkyTrak's planning page suggests 12 ft of width (plus 1-2 ft if lefties and righties share), says 17 ft of depth is comfortable, and says 10 ft of ceiling "typically offers ample clearance" while many golfers find 9 ft enough. SkyTrak's Studio 10 diagram places the unit 10 ft back from the screen.
Uneekor EYE MINI LITE
The EYE MINI LITE user guide says to set the unit level with the hitting surface and parallel to your target line, not aimed at the target. Its placement diagram shows a 12 x 8 in ready zone with a 16 in dimension marked beside the unit. Uneekor's technical specs list ground placement and a 12 x 8 in hitting zone. Uneekor doesn't publish a room size for this model specifically. Its general space page recommends at least 13 ft wide (15 ft for golfers 6 ft or taller) and 12 ft from screen to tee, with 10 ft as a minimum if you're "wary of ball bounce-back." That page's 13 x 15 x 10 ft example is drawn for an overhead EYE XO, so we haven't applied its depth or ceiling to the EYE MINI LITE.
Bushnell Launch Pro
Foresight, which makes the Launch Pro for Bushnell, says on its help center to place it upright about 2 ft from the hitting area, raised to the same level as your mat. Bushnell's buyer's guide says indoors you need 13 ft of depth to track ball flight, at least 6 ft of width and "enough ceiling height to safely swing your club." The same guide lists a recommended 14 x 6 x 7 ft for one package and 18 x 12 x 9 ft for another. Bushnell doesn't give a separate ball-to-screen number.
Foresight GC3
We couldn't find a GC3 manual or GC3-specific room spec on Foresight's own pages. Foresight's buyer's guide recommends at least a 10 ft ceiling, with 9 ft workable for certain configurations. If you want a beside-the-ball unit with a published placement spec, the Launch Pro (above) and GCQuad (below) have one.
Foresight GCQuad
The GCQuad user guide says to place the unit upright on a level surface about 22 in from the hitting area, raised to the level of your mat. Foresight doesn't publish a GCQuad-specific depth, width or ball-to-screen number on the pages we found, so the general buyer's guide guidance applies.
Trackman iO
Trackman's tech specs recommend a room at least 15 ft wide, 10 ft high and 18 ft deep, with a minimum of 8 ft 2 in from screen to ball. Its iO setup article recommends 10 ft from tee to screen, a minimum room height of 9 ft 4 in with an ideal mounting height of 9 ft 8 in, and a hitting area at least 6 ft deep by 5 ft wide. Trackman's mounting specs list three calibration heights, measured from turf to ceiling:
- Low: 8 ft 10 in to 9 ft 6 in (iO only)
- Mid: 9 ft 4 in to 10 ft (iO and iO DUO)
- High: 9 ft 10 in to 10 ft 6 in (iO and iO DUO)
Behind the ball, Trackman's space guide only asks for "enough for a comfortable swing."
FlightScope Mevo+
FlightScope's FAQ says to place the Mevo+ 7-9 ft behind the tee, or 8 ft behind for limited-flight indoor use with at least 8 ft of ball flight. It also says indoor spin needs aluminum dots or Titleist RCT balls. We didn't find a width, ceiling or total-depth number from FlightScope.
Which units fit small rooms?
Based on manufacturer specs, beside-the-ball and overhead units save the most depth:
- Smallest published floor area: SkyTrak's ST MAX user guide lists a 10 x 10 ft minimum unobstructed area. SkyTrak says other launch monitors "require up to 8' behind the hitting area."
- Narrowest published width: Bushnell's Launch Pro buyer's guide asks for at least 6 ft of width, with a recommended 14 x 6 x 7 ft setup for one package. It also asks for 13 ft of depth.
- No floor unit at all: The Trackman iO mounts overhead, but its lowest calibration range starts at 8 ft 10 in, and Trackman recommends 15 ft of width.
- Behind-the-ball units: The R10, MLM2PRO and Mevo+ all ask for at least 8 ft of ball flight plus 6-9 ft behind the ball. Garmin's own minimum is 15 ft long, and Rapsodo's is "a little more than 15 feet."
Whatever the unit, your swing sets the real limit. Just because a unit fits on paper doesn't mean you can swing a driver there, so take slow practice swings in the space first. Our ceiling height guide covers swing clearance and enclosure heights in detail.
